Social Security number

The Social Security number (NUSS, also called the affiliation number) identifies you with the Social Security. The official page says anyone who does not have one yet can request it at any time.

Documents

  • Identity document (DNI or NIE)
  • Contact details (mobile phone and email)
  • Your usual home address
  • For a child: form TA.1 with the child's details, plus the parent's or guardian's documents

Do it yourself

  1. Check in the Social Security personal area whether you already have a number, for example from earlier work in Spain.
  2. Apply online on the Social Security portal, with Cl@ve or a digital certificate, or without them by sending a photo of your document and a selfie.
  3. Keep the number: employers and the health service ask for it.

The official page says the number can be requested at any time.
