NIE and foreigner identity card (TIE)
The NIE is the foreigner identity number. The TIE is the card that identifies non-EU residents; the National Police page describes requesting it after entering Spain, once a residence authorisation or visa is in place.
Documents
- Passport
- Application form EX-17
- Proof of payment of fee form 790, code 012
Do it yourself
- Read the National Police page for your type of card and fill in form EX-17.
- The application is presented in person at a foreigners' office (Oficina de Extranjería) or the corresponding police station. The administration sets the appointments.
- Keep your receipt; later steps typically ask for your NIE.
The period for requesting the card depends on your authorisation. Veraz does not calculate it: check the official source.
